Michele Baccelli specialises in examination, appeal and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office, especially in the areas of telecommunications, software patents, and electronics/circuit technologies. He assists clients in nullity and litigation proceedings, also cross-country. He provides counsel in licensing negotiations, particularly in relation to technical aspects of small to large patent portfolios.


Baccelli is a lecturer abroad, especially on EPO-related matters. He is also an author of articles on European practice of software patents. Baccelli is a member of the Italian Patent Attorney Bar Association and the EPI.

Mark read physics at Oxford University (Lincoln College), graduating with first class honours in 2003. Particular specialisations in his undergraduate studies included renewable energy technology, semiconductor, optical and micromagnetic devices, condensed matter physics and particle physics.

 

In 2006, Mark completed his doctorate under jointly the Department of Materials Science and the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford University, developing molecular optical and magnetic memory technology for advanced computing applications. During his studies, he worked with defence agencies on both sides of the Atlantic in respectively aerospace engineering (undergraduate) and communications and cryptography systems (post-graduate).

 

Following his academic career, Mark joined Hoffmann Eitle in 2008. He obtained (with Distinction) the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London in 2009. In 2011, Mark was awarded the Ballantyne Prize by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys in recognition of outstanding performance in the Infringement and Validity paper of the British Qualifying Examination.

Dan Rudoy focuses his practice on patent prosecution in the areas of artificial intelligence, speech and image processing, industrial automation, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, cybersecurity, autonomous devices, software, medical devices, computer security, networking, radar systems, and electronics. He is particularly skilled in technologies related to machine learning, including deep learning, signal processing, big data, data science and bioinformatics.

 

Dan works regularly with startups and midsize companies, advising them on all aspects of IP strategy and portfolio development both in the United States and abroad. Dan works with clients on many IP issues beyond patent prosecution including due diligence, trade secrets, licensing, freedom-to-operate and litigation.

 

Dan was previously an associate staff member in the Air and Missile Defense Technology, and the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Systems Technology divisions at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where he developed target tracking, multi-sensor fusion and discrimination technologies for radar and electro-optical infrared systems. Subsequently as a graduate student at Harvard University, he carried out research in speech and audio signal processing, computational statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and atomic force microscopy.

Ed Walsh has extensive experience representing both patent owners and petitioners before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and in reexamination proceedings. He also works with electrical and computer-related clients in IP strategy development and execution. His areas of technical proficiency include semiconductor processing and high-speed circuit design, wireless communication and signal processing, networks, and connectors and interconnection technology.

 

Ed served over 14 years as in-house counsel for technology companies, including Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Teradyne, a world leader in semiconductor processing equipment. Prior to entering law school, Ed worked as an electrical engineer, managing a team developing vehicle diagnostic equipment and as a researcher at the National Cancer Institute.
