Michele Baccelli

Partner, Hoffmann Eitle

Michele Baccelli specialises in examination, appeal and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office, especially in the areas of telecommunications, software patents, and electronics/circuit technologies. He assists clients in nullity and litigation proceedings, also cross-country. He provides counsel in licensing negotiations, particularly in relation to technical aspects of small to large patent portfolios.

Baccelli is a lecturer abroad, especially on EPO-related matters. He is also an author of articles on European practice of software patents. Baccelli is a member of the Italian Patent Attorney Bar Association and the EPI.

Mike Gruber

Mike Gruber specialises in patent litigation, supplementary protection certificates, unfair competition law, and IP-related antitrust law. Gruber has been recognised by Handelsblatt as one of the 'Best Lawyers in Germany 2020' and has been named an IP rising star in Germany by Managing IP in 2018 and 2019.

Mark Jones

Mark is experienced in both contentious and non-contentious proceedings before the European and British patent offices, as well as providing strategic advice on global patent prosecution and litigation. His experience spans high-tech manufacturing, automotive and aerospace engineering, applied physics, scientific and medical devices, consumer goods, energy technology, extractive industries, metallurgy and materials science.

In patent prosecution, Mark supports businesses at all stages of growth in obtaining patent protection which delivers value within an integrated IP strategy. In his local jurisdictions, Mark aims to obtain commercially valuable scope of protection in a cost-efficient manner. Many of the portfolios on which he advises are multi-jurisdictional, and Mark develops strong relationships with local counsel to deliver client-centric prosecution for modern, global markets.

In contentious matters, Mark delivers strategy and advocacy to defend valuable rights and deliver legal certainty with respect to competitors, effectively using EPO Opposition and Opposition Appeal procedures. Mark also has in-depth experience in supporting and co-ordinating large-portfolio patent litigation, including in Germany and the Netherlands.

Mark regularly presents on key developments in UK and European law and practice internally as part of our knowledge-sharing programme, internationally at practitioner conferences, and in small-group workshops to support and update clients and partner law firms.

Dominik Scheible

Dominik Scheible practices examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the Federal Patent Court and the European Patent Office. He also represents in nullity actions before the Federal Patent Court and assists in litigation cases before German Civil Courts. Scheible operates in the following technical fields: telecommunications, electronics and fields interfacing mechanical and electrical engineering.

Holger Stratmann

Holger Stratmann specialises in litigation and counselling in the areas of patent law and all other areas of IP. He has experience in handling and coordinating multi-jurisdictional patent disputes in Europe and is active in client counselling with regards to licensing, transactional IP and research and development matters. Stratmann advises multi-national clients in all matters relating to anti-counterfeiting and product piracy, in particular coordinating EU-wide border seizure strategies and proceedings.

Christopher Furlong

IP rights in the field of mechanical engineering and physics, including infringement, validity and opinion work, and especially opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. Specific experience in the field of general mechanical engineering, paper technology, packaging technology, the engineering of hygiene articles, computer printer systems, automobile technology, laminates and optics.

Holger Stratmann

Main field of practice is patent litigation in all technical areas. Active as litigator in Germany, organizes and co-ordinates multi-jurisdictional patent litigation in Europe. Wide experience in enforcing pharma patents. Also active in licensing, IP-related aspects of competition law and other areas of intellectual property law, as well as international arbitration, private international law and general contract law. Special expertise in counseling Japanese enterprises on German and European patent, licensing and competition law (in the Japanese language) and European enterprises on Japanese law.
